Reference Books for Staff Selection Commission CGL Examination

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an Indian organization to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices. For that, SSC CGL exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) every year.

Staff selection Commission conducts the SSC CGL in two sections named as Tier 1 & Tier 2. Tier I Syllabus includes 4 subjects namely General Intelligence, General Reasoning, General English, Quantitative Aptitude. Alternatively Tier II Syllabus includes 3 main papers for Quantitative Mental Abilities, English Language & Comprehension, Statistics & Economics.

Syllabus for SSC CGL Examination:

For Tier 1:

Tier – 1 of SSC CGL will comprise of 200 questions. Those questions shall be divided in four sections. Let’s have a closer look at them

  1. General Intelligence & Reasoning: Here, questions are likely to be asked from areas like analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, This section covers up topics such as analogy, coding decoding, symbols, sitting arrangements, blood relations, syllogisms etc. Recommended books are, non-verbal series, coding and decoding etc.
  2. General Awareness:This section covers sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Indian Constitution, scientific Research etc.
  3. Numerical Aptitute:Decimal Fraction, Simplification, Average, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Simple Interest, Profit & Loss etc.
  4. English Comprehension:Candidates’ ability to understand correct English, his basic comprehension and writing ability, etc. would be tested.

For Tier 2:

Tier-II of the Combined Graduate Level Examination will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice and will consist of three different papers each having 200 marks & 2 hours duration.

  1. Arithmetic Ability : This paper will include questions on problems relating to Number Systems, Computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions and relationship between Numbers, Fundamental Arithmetical Operations, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Average, Interest, Profit and Loss etc.
  2. English Language & Comprehension: This paper tests candidate’s understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on error recognition, fill in the blanks, passages and comprehension of passages etc.
  3. Statistics: Includes Probability, Probability Distributions, Binomial, Poisson, Normal, Exponential, tabulation of Statistical Data, Graphical presentation of data etc.
  4. Economics: This section covers general economics like Demand and Supply Analysis, Production Function and Laws of Returns, Commodity Pricing, Foreign Exchange, Taxation etc.
